Nomination deadline for BCS officers and committee roles extended due to Easter holidays and junior doctors strike

Due to the extended Bank Holiday and the forthcoming junior doctors strike, the BCS has taken the decision to extend the deadline for nominations for our officer and committee roles for another week, now closing at 11.59pm on Wednesday 19 April. This will allow more time for applications for these vital roles following this particularly busy time.

Do consider if you would like to support us and shape the future of your specialty society. We need committed and enthusiastic members across a wide variety of roles, particularly people with new ideas on how we can support the membership and engage them in our work. If you would like to contribute to our growing society, why not stand for election? Even if you haven’t previously considered yourself to be a ‘committee person’, our friendly approach and new ways of working encourage participation.

The BCS seeks to improve equality of opportunity, diversity and inclusion throughout all of its activities, including in our committees, our executive roles and on Council. We would like our Society to reflect the diverse nature of the profession and wider membership, so welcome nominations of representatives from all backgrounds, cultures and identities, and from all the regions of the UK.

You don’t have to be a senior consultant for all our roles, we would like to hear from any cardiac specialist who feels they have something to offer, and being involved provides opportunities to develop professional and leadership skills.

There are a wide range of posts available:

  • President (Elect) and Vice-president, Corporate Finance and Development (Elect) – for these two key roles, you will be able to spend a year learning the role from the current postholder before taking up the substantive role
  • Chair of BCS Women in Cardiology
  • 2 Council member roles – one without portfolio and one non-surgical centre representative
  • Committee members for many committees including Clinical Standards; Digital and IT; Education; Finance; Guidelines & Practice; Professional and Society Ethics and Women in Cardiology

Nominations close at 11.59pm BST on Wednesday 19 April 2023 so there is still time to apply – visit our nominations portal for full details.
