Improving heart health vital says Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal at centenary reception

Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal underlined the importance of improving heart health in the population at a reception on Thursday 2 February to celebrate the centenary of the British Cardiovascular Society. Speaking to an audience of cardiologists, other cardiovascular healthcare professionals, patient representatives, and supporters of the work of BCS, The Princess Royal emphasised the importance of supporting everyone to look after their heart to prevent death and disease in later life.

As Royal Patron for the centenary year of the Society, The Princess Royal met a wide variety of guests before giving a short speech. She also paid tribute to the multidisciplinary team, acknowledging that care for patients with heart problems involves many healthcare professionals, and paid tribute to the achievements of the Society over the past century.

Her Royal Highness also presented the Mackenzie Medal, the Society’s highest honour, to Professor Jane Somerville, one of the UK’s most eminent cardiologists.
